A tractor-trailer ran off the road and into a deep ravine after colliding with another truck on Interstate 81. At the time of the accident, a truck was installing new reflectors on the interstate when the tractor-trailer slammed into the truck, causing it to strike a nearby highway patrol officer’s vehicle and causing injury to the officer. A local emergency rescue team and local firefighters were able to remove 2 people from the large truck. Tennessee Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation of the accident.
According to new studies, truck drivers with sleep apnea are at risk of falling asleep while on the job. The condition, which is usually the result of obesity, is the target of a new recommendation from medical groups who claim that overweight drivers are at risk of causing truck accidents. Federal regulation to protect drivers from fatigued drivers is slow in responding to this apparent problem.
A truck owned by local Memphis cotton manufacturer was recently in a truck accident on the interstate. The truck took a curve too fast and turned over.
